Fest Afrika offers an exciting lineup of performances throughout the festival week. On Thursday, July 30, we will celebrate not only Fest Afrika’s 25th anniversary but also the Jazz in Finland 100 Anniversary Year, as the afro-jazz ensemble Baraka Issabu Quintet takes the stage at Telakka. The evening also marks Fest Afrika’s return to its roots after several years, as the very first Fest Afrika festivals were held at Telakka. This year, Telakka is also celebrating its own 30th anniversary.
Festival Pass: Friday and Saturday Tickets in One Convenient Package
Friday evening’s concert at Komediateatterin Palatsi will be headlined by Fanta Yayo, the Guinean artist now based in Sweden, performing with her acoustic ensemble. The entertaining Nigerian group El Doxa will also take the stage.
On Saturday, audiences can enjoy African music at Kulttuurikeskus Nekalab. The evening begins with the traditional West African rhythms of Trio Mandeng, guaranteed to get people dancing. Cheza Ngoma will bring East African sounds and also memories of the very first Fest Afrika festival in 2002, where the group performed as well. Saturday’s program also includes an exciting concept by Ugandan artist J. C. Muyonjo, who will present music and visual artworks from his audiovisual project Abatuuze.
At Saturday night’s Afro party at Semafori, you can immerse yourself in an energetic club atmosphere with performances by Nigerian artist Mabs and the dance group PAWA Afro Dancers, among others.
