The festival week includes plenty of fun activities for children and families. In addition to free events for all ages, Saturday afternoon will feature dance workshops for young people as well as a DJ workshop.

Fest Afrika kicks off on Tuesday, July 28, with a free event suitable for the whole family. At Kalevan Hall, the Cultural Center for Sustainable Living, visitors can build their own musical instruments from recycled materials or get practical tips on repairing everyday items.
On Friday, July 31, the Music Section of Tampere Main Library Metso will host a storytelling session for the whole family with Yahya Sonko. Yahya takes listeners on a journey into the world of African stories that have been passed down through his family for centuries. An important part of the storytelling experience is the kora, a West African instrument played by Yahya. Stories will be told in both English and Finnish. The event is free and open to everyone.
A Family event at Nekalab on Saturday

Workshops for children and youth – DJ Workshop for the first time
In dance classes designed for children and young people, Siku Mponda will teach participants some of the best dance moves. The dance classes cost 5 euros, and the language of instruction is Finnish, with English available when needed.
This year, young people will have an exciting opportunity to learn the basics of DJing as DJ LeNoir shares his expertise. The workshop covers the fundamentals of DJ performance and introduces the key principles of mixing. Participants will practice beat matching using energetic Afrohouse tracks.
To ensure that everyone has a chance to learn, practice, and develop their skills, the workshop is limited to six participants. The DJ workshop will be conducted in English.
Register for the workshops in advance to secure your place. Any remaining spots may also be available on-site. More information about the workshops and registration links can be found on the Workshops page.
