The summer festival season kicks off already in April with Fest Afrika Spring Jam! At the Spring Jam, we’ll get to hear music from the Tampere-based collective Maajo, performed from their brand-new album, which will be released on 24 April 2026.
Their sound flows from equatorial rhythms to Nordic atmospheres, blending organic percussion, electronic textures, and natural soundscapes into a warm, imaginative whole.
Over the decade, Maajo has grown from an electronic project into a full band featuring vocalists and musicians from across Africa. Maajo’s live band includes the celebrated Senegalese percussionist and singer Ismaila Sané, Mauritian drummer vocalist powerhouse Gilbert K and of course the instruments and the electronics of the Finnish members. The group has released multiple albums and EPs on international labels and toured widely, earning an enthusiastic global following.

Fest Afrika Spring Jam will be held at Restaurant Semafori on Saturday 25 April at 21-04. In addition to the headline act Maajo, the evening’s dance rhythms will also be provided by DJ. At 21 Doors open. At 22 Maajo. Tickets 15 euros at the door.
